How to Support Women Farmers on Mother's Day

"I am raising the next generation while producing food."

‍That's how many U.S. farm operators are women. They're the fastest growing segment in agriculture.

‍What's up with women?

‍Women are at the forefront of an important shift in today’s farm culture. They tend to:

• Farm on smaller pieces of land
• Grow diverse crops
• Prioritize food over commodity crops

Basically, women tend to be leaders in sustainable farm practices.

This Week's Prosperity Checklist

✅ Consider making a donation in your mom's name

• American Agri-Women (AAW) -  The nation’s largest coalition of farm, ranch and agribusiness women
• Women, Food and Agriculture Network (WFAN) - Offers women resources and support to implement sustainable agriculture and healthy localized food systems.

✅ Give to or apply for scholarship funding

• American Agri-Women Foundation - Offers two $1,000 scholarships to any farm, ranch or agribusiness woman or her daughter for courses related to agriculture including communications or medicine.
• Helen Whitmore Memorial Convention Scholarship application deadline is August 15.
• Daughters of American Agriculture Scholarships is currently accepting applications for 2023.

✅ Apply for a grant

• Young Farmers Grant - $5,000 award for for young farmers looking to start or grow their farm. At least half of the recipients will be female-identifying, non-binary and trans farmers.
• American Agri-Women Foundation - Offers three mini-grants of $500 to individual members of the organization. To apply, you have to explain your project’s sustainability impact, and applications are due by October 15.
