The Water Bank Program
The Water Bank Program (WBP) is designed to protect wetlands and waterways while reducing flooding. Through WBP, growers agree to remove their land from cropping in return for a fee calculated by acreage and type of production system ($50/acres for crops, $35 acre for rangeland/pasture, or $20/acre for timber). Cropland receives high priority, pasture and rangelands medium-priority, and forestry low-priority. Each participating grower will develop a Conservation Plan of Operations with an NRCS official and enter into a non-renewable, 10-year rental agreement.
