FarmRaise FAQs

About FarmRaise

What is FarmRaise, exactly?

Hey there! We are startup building tools that help farmers master their finances. FarmRaise Tracks, our mobile app, is a faster and easier way to manage farm cash flow by digitally storing receipts, recording transactions on the go, and helping farmers stay organized for tax time. Our web app includes a library of hundreds of public, private, and NGO funding opportunities which we update weekly (we'll send you an alert each time we discover a new grant in your area), along with a simpler, faster application for USDA conservation funding and farm number registration. See more about how FarmRaise works.

Why does FarmRaise exist?

We're here because farmers and ranchers asked for better tools to grow their businesses. We know that small, beginning, and unconventional farmers, are struggling to be profitable and aim to equip producers across America with the resources they need to reach their goals. We demystify agricultural finance, eliminate stressful paperwork, and make funding more accessible to producers.

Are you a lending agency or a bank?

Nope. But we do partner with banks and lending agencies to connect their services to farmers.

What's your long-term goal?

FarmRaise promotes the vitality of rural communities by equipping farmers to be profitable and resilient.

Who's on the FarmRaise team?

We are a small team of software engineers, farmers, and entrepreneurs. Some of us live on a farm or come from farming families, others have experience working at the USDA, in agribusiness, in tech and in agriculture finance. Learn more about us on our Team page!

How does FarmRaise use farmer feedback to improve the app?

We value the insights and experiences of our farmers. We actively collect feedback to understand your needs better. This feedback loop allows us to identify areas for improvement and continuously enhance our app. Additionally, we reward farmers who help us find bugs in our app (ideally they don't happen very often but when they do we want to fix them right away).

What is FarmRaise Tracks?

Tracks is a platform that makes it incredibly quick and easy to organize your farm financial data to generate key financial statements like a near-complete Schedule F (we recommend that all farmers to share their documents with an accountant before submitting to the IRS), a P&L for your major farm enterprises, and a system of record digitizing your important farm paperwork.

How does it work?

You can record transactions, snapping and saving receipts on the go through our simple manual upload tool. You can also seamlessly link your bank account for automatic transaction ingestion. It's up to you!

How long does this take to learn?

We can help you get started in just a matter of minutes!

Does it work offline?

Our mobile app works great online and offline so you can use our tool whether you're at the desk or in the field.

Do you have a desktop version?

We have a mobile app and a web app that you can access on your laptop or desktop - both are included in your membership.

Agricultural Funding Opportunities

What grants can FarmRaise apply me to?

While we aren't grant writers and won't apply to grants for you, FarmRaise helps farmers apply for USDA cost share and Farm Service agency records with confidence through a simplified, digital application experience that saves stress, time, and paperwork.

Are you trying to replace the USDA?

Definitely not. The USDA and its affiliates (including the Farm Service Agency and the Natural Resources Conservation Service) provide crucial consultation and technical services to farmers (not to mention billions of dollars in grant and cost-share funding!). We are here to simplify government paperwork on the front end so that USDA agents have more time to partner with you. We also connect you to private funding opportunities in addition to government programs.

Do you service Puerto Rico?

Yes. We stay up to date on funding opportunities for producers in the entirety of the United States including all 50 states and U.S. territories. That includes Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Regenerative Agriculture and Beginning Farmers

What's with your focus on soil health?

At FarmRaise, we believe that better business tools and more accessible funding will help farmers to not only address their short-term financial needs, but also invest in long-term assets: clean water, clean air, biodiversity, and healthy soils. These crucial natural resources preserve the farm for the next generation while making an operation more profitable and resilient.

What types of farmers and ranchers are a good fit for FarmRaise?

We love all types of producers! That said, farmers who already have land (rented or owned) will get the most from our platform. Basically, if you already have a business with expenses to track and things to sell, it is probably a good time for us to get started together.
